Atlas Numismatics Adds 606 Fixed-Price Coins, Medals, and Tokens

Atlas Numismatics’ New List Features a $79,500 Tudor Gold Rarity

Atlas Numismatics has announced its latest fixed-price inventory update. The new release adds 606 coins, medals, and tokens to the firm’s website.

This month’s selections span the ancient Greek world, Tudor England, the German States, Hungary, the Papal States, and Transylvania. As a result, collectors can find everything from a high-grade Philip II tetradrachm to a Mint State Elizabeth I gold pound.

A Star-Designated Philip II Tetradrachm Leads the Ancient Coins

One of the standout ancient coins comes from the Kingdom of Macedon. Atlas offers item 1086879, an early posthumous silver tetradrachm of Philip II, who ruled from 359 to 336 BCE.

NGC graded the coin Mint State Star. The coin also earned a 5/5 strike and a 5/5 surface rating. That combination gives the piece major visual appeal.

The Pella Mint struck the coin. It measures 18 mm and weighs 14.33 grams. The obverse shows the head of Zeus facing right while wearing a laurel wreath. Meanwhile, the reverse shows a nude youth on horseback. He holds a palm frond and rein. A snake coils between the horse’s legs, and a Boeotian shield appears in the exergue.

Atlas cites Le Rider plate 22,530 and HGC 3.1. The firm describes the coin as a phenomenal example and one of the finest known of the type. It also notes that NGC awarded the Star designation for exceptional eye appeal.

A Brunswick Mining Thaler With a Powerful Story

The new list also includes item 1087128, a 1761 IBH silver thaler of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel under Karl I. PCGS graded the coin MS64.

The Zellerfeld Mint struck the piece. It weighs 29.05 grams. The obverse legend reads D.G. CAROLVS · DVX · BRVNSVIC · LVNEB ·. The design shows crowned complex oval arms with wildmen supporters.

The reverse carries the inscription AN GOTTES SEGEN IST ALLES GELEGEN. It also reads DIE GRVBE / SEGEN GOTTES / KAM IN AVSBEVT / IM Q: CRVC: date / I.A.P. The reverse shows a view of the mine. Atlas translates the theme as “God’s blessing of the mine.”

Atlas cites KM 964, Davenport 2169, Müseler 10.3/62, Welter 2729, and Kluge 55 from the Preussag collections.

A Mint State Elizabeth I Gold Pound

For British gold collectors, the headline piece may be item 1087224. Atlas lists an Elizabeth I gold pound from the Sixth Issue, dated 1592-95 and marked with the tun mintmark.

NGC graded the coin MS61. The London Tower Mint struck it. The coin weighs 11.12 grams.

The obverse legend reads ELIZABETH;G;ANG;FRA;ET;REGINA. The design shows a crowned bust 7A facing left. Elizabeth wears long hair and richly ornamented dress.

The reverse legend reads SCVTVM:FIDEI:PROTEGET. A square-topped shield appears with E and R at the sides. The piece also shows double annulet stops.

Atlas cites SCBC-2534, North 2008, Schneider 798, and Friedberg 214.

A Conservatively Graded Maria Theresia Thaler

Atlas also offers item 1084972, a 1765 ·X· silver thaler of Maria Theresia from Hungary. PCGS graded the coin AU58.

The piece weighs 27.91 grams. The obverse legend reads M · THER · D: G · R · IMP · – GE · HU · BO · R · A · A · D · B · C · T ·. The obverse shows the younger bust of Maria Theresia facing right.

The reverse legend begins S · MARIA · MATER · DEI. The design features the Radiant Madonna and Child.

Atlas cites KM 358.1, Davenport 1132, and Huszar 1675. The firm describes the coin as having the appearance of a Mint State example and calls it conservatively graded.

A Papal Medal Honoring the Appian Way

Medal collectors will note item 1085826, an 1852-VII silver medal from the Papal States under Pius IX, who served as pontiff from 1849 to 1878. PCGS graded the medal SP64.

Bonfil Zaccagnini engraved the piece. It measures 43.5 mm and weighs 33.33 grams.

The obverse legend reads PIVS IX PONTIFEX MAXIMVS ANNO VII. The design shows the bust of Pius IX facing right, with the signature below the truncation.

The reverse reads VIA APPIA RESTITVTA // A TEMP S SEBASTIANI P M AD BOVILLAS. The scene shows the deceased Saint Sebastian lying on his tomb, facing right. In the background, the Appian Way appears with the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella and the Church of Saint Sebastian.

Atlas cites Bartolotti E852 and Modesti 319. The medal marks renovation work on the ancient Appian Way and the restoration of its most important monuments.

A Choice Mint State Ducat From Transylvania

Rounding out the highlights, Atlas lists item 1086114, a 1721 gold ducat of Transylvania under Karl VI. PCGS graded the coin MS63.

The Karlsburg Mint struck the piece. It weighs 3.38 grams.

The obverse legend begins CARVI · D · G · R · I. The design shows an armored bust facing right. The reverse legend reads ARCHID · AV · D · BVR · PRINC · TRANSYL, followed by the date. The reverse shows crowned arms on the breast of a crowned double-headed eagle.

Atlas cites KM 574, Friedberg 520, Herinek 205, and Huszár 897 variant.
