Australian Posters of World War I Celebrated on New Perth Mint Coins

The Perth Mint is proud to launch a remarkable commemorative coin series featuring vintage Australian Posters of World War I.

When news first broke of the war in 1914, a huge wave of patriotism and support swept across Australia. Major political parties, churches, community leaders and newspapers exhorted its citizens to champion the war and there was a major rush to recruiting offices.

                Coins come in deluxe packaging.

As the long lists of Australian casualties increased, and the grim reality of war set in, a campaign to enlist more men was unleashed and a series of motivational posters were issued across the nation.

Struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality, the first coin in this series depicts a coloured representation of the ‘A Call from the Dardanelles’ poster which employed the theme of Australians fighting at Gallipoli.

This stunning rectangle shaped tribute features a World War I digger in a slouch hat standing astride the Narrows, one foot on the Gallipoli Peninsula and the other on Asia Minor, calling out the Australian bush cry of ‘coo-ee’.

The inscription AUSTRALIAN ENLISTMENT, The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark, and the coin’s weight and fineness also appear in the design.

Perth Mint Sales and Marketing Director, Ron Currie said:

“As commemorations begin for the hundredth anniversary of the First World War, we are honoured to be reflecting on the iconic archives from Australia’s military history, and the social impact the individual pieces had on the nation.”

Coins are legal tender with $1 Face Value

Forming part of an on-going Australian Posters of World War I series, collectors can also purchase coin designs featuring other historic posters, such as Australian Red Cross, Australian War Bonds, Australian Home Front and Australian Peace Bonds, which will be unveiled over the next four years.

Only 5,000 of the Australian Posters of World War I – Enlistment Coins will be released by The Perth Mint.

Priced at $99.00, collectors can purchase this significant piece from The Perth Mint at 310 Hay Street in East Perth, on toll free 1800 098 817 (Australia), +61 8 9421 7218 (International) or at
