Austrian Mint to Issue Final Austria Piece by Piece Coin, New €3 “Colorful Creatures” Series

Austria Piece by Piece: Austria 10 Euro Commemorative Coin

Home are you to great daughters and sons

History, culture and landscape, together with other elements, combine to form the special character of a country. Like most countries, Austria has the first two in abundance, but one of the things that makes the country truly unique is how synonymous it is with its spectacular landscape. It is no surprise, then, that a class from Dr. Jonas Primary School in the town of Kapfenberg placed a delightful Alpine landscape at the heart of their concept for the Austria coin, our 10th and last coin in the Austria Piece by Piece / Austria By Its Children series, which will be issued on 5 October 2016.

The design came about by each child drawing individual elements that were brought together as one. Surrounded by a circle of smiling children holding hands, the design beat 4,000 other entries in the national competition to design the coin. In doing so it has provided the crowning glory to the Austrian Mint’s ambitious and educational Austria Piece by Piece series.

This charming coin is the fruit of the very highest production standards and comes in two special quality formats: Special Uncirculated (maximum 40,000) and Proof (maximum 30,000). The Special Uncirculated coins are presented in a blister pack in a clearly Austria-influenced sleeve design, while the Proof coins come in a presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity. In addition to technical information, the certificate also explains the design concept and the minting quality.

Three Euro Colorful Creatures Series

Colorful Creatures is a 12-piece series of extraordinary coins by the Austrian Mint. Just like certain nocturnal species, the animals featured on the coins become active at night by glowing in the dark. Guaranteed to delight animal lovers of all ages, the series obviously has special appeal for children, who can enjoy them even after they have gone to bed. But we believe our Colorful Creatures series is going to prove just as popular as our innovative Silver Niobium coins, which are such a huge hit with collectors that most issues have completely sold out.

The Austrian Mint’s master engravers have taken their world-famous craftsmanship and attention to detail to another level with this series by combining the coins’ surface relief, color application and superb artwork to dramatic effect. Even the coins’ face value is out of the ordinary.

Colorful Creatures is the first-ever Austrian €3 coin series. It features 12 glow-in-the-dark colored coins, which will be issued every three months over the next three years. With a maximum mintage of 50,000 pieces, the coins come in special 10-coin packs for dealers.
