Coin Club News – Larry Baber Appointed ANA Treasurer

Long-time ANA member Larry Baber was re-appointed treasurer of the American Numismatic Association during a teleconference by the nonprofit organization’s Board of Governors held on June 7. Baber precedes/succeeds Gerome Walton, who served as the ANA’s treasurer for two years while Baber was overseas on a church-related mission in the Marshall Islands. Walton is returning to his previous role as assistant treasurer, a position to which he originally was appointed in 1988.

ana_medals_lgBaber, an ANA member since 1975, had previously served as ANA treasurer from 2011 to 2014. He was a Certified Public Accountant and partner with the accounting firm of Leaf & Cole, LLP for more than 20 years.

In other business, the ANA Board of Directors approved:

  • An extension of the Walsworth Publishing contract for The Numismatist for the term 2017-2019.
  • An “ANA Media Partner” proposal from Amos Media for co-marketing opportunities.
  • A proposed addendum agreement between the ANA and the Professional Numismatists Guild (PNG) for the Denver World’s Fair of Money in 2017.

  • An unbudgeted capital expenditure to replace the Association’s air conditioner/chiller equipment in the amount of $51,893.
  • Amending the policy concerning donations to require the ANA executive director to notify the board of donations of $20,000 or more – up from $10,000 – whether cash, materials or in-kind. The board will evaluate donations on a case-by-case basis and reserves the right to decline any donation in whole or in part.
  • An award recognizing membership recruitment to be sponsored by John and Nancy Wilson and named in their honor. The John & Nancy Wilson Member Booster Award shall be presented annually during the ANA Member and Donor Reception beginning at the Anaheim World’s Fair of Money in August 2016.

The ANA Board of Governors will next meet in open session at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, during the Anaheim show.
