Heritage’s latest Monthly World Coin Internet Auction features an important offering of German States coinage.

This auction is accepting bids now, with the live auction scheduled for April 24. As always with our monthly world coin auctions, the selection of material is designed to fit collectors’ budgets.

Issues from 20 different German States are featured in this auction, with a fine selections of high-grade material and proofs. A particular highlight is a proof 2 Mark issue from Prussia dated 1901-A, the key date in the series graded PR61 by ANACS. A second Prussian highlight is the proof 5 Mark dated 1913-A. This is a common coin in Mint State but borders on rare as a Proof, and at an NGC-assigned grade of Proof 65 Ultra Cameo should bring a strong bid. A Wurzburg gold Ducat dated 1776 and graded MS62 by NGC is an appealing example of its type.

This auction also boasts a considerable selection of proof coinage from the Weimar Republic, with commemorative issues particularly well-represented. Easily the key Weimar commemorative issue is the 1932-G 5 Mark piece struck to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, with only a few hundred proofs struck in Karlsruhe (as denoted by the G mintmark). This auction features a bright white example graded Proof 63 by NGC, with the Cameo designation added to denote the contrast between the devices and the fields.
