Born in Switzerland but better known as a leading figure behind the French modernist architecture movement, Le Corbusier (1887-1965) freed French architecture from its traditional forms and rejected what to him was the unnecessary ornamentation of the Beaux Arts School. Le Corbusier was a free-thinker and visionary. An early pioneer in urban planning, Le Corbusier sought to reimagine and reengineer cities to make them more efficient and to give their inhabitants a better quality of life. While Le Corbusier is mainly considered a French architect, his built works span four continents. His ideas travelled even farther and continue to inspire architects the all across the world.
