Knight CPMX Sale Features First-Class Offerings

IOLA, Wis. (Jan. 19, 2012) — Lyn Knight’s Chicago Paper Money Expo auction is fast approaching and he’s already lined up some first-class offering to grace its catalog selections, including the Dr. Wallace Lee Collection of Michigan National Bank Notes.

The auction will be held at the Crowne Plaza O’Hare, 5440 N. River Rd., Rosemont, Ill., during the 18th annual CPMX, March 8-11.

Built over 35+ years of collecting, the Lee collection was started by the long-time president of the Paper Money Collectors of Michigan in the mid-1970s with the goal of acquiring the earliest note known from each bank in the best possible condition.

Also featured in the Knight CPMX sale is the James W. (Billy) Key Collection, described as “the most extensive assemblage of solid serial numbers ever formed, far surpassing even the landmark Grinnell auctions.” Highlighting the collection is a set of $1 1928-A and 1928-B Silver Certificate Experimentals from the X-B, Y-B, and Z-B blocks.

The Key Collection also contains nearly a dozen notes with serials 99999999. Complimenting these are complete sets of 11111111 to 99999999 serials on different denominations of Federal Reserve Notes and Silver Certificates, and a rollover pair from 99999999 to 00000001 on $5 Federal Reserve Notes “of inestimable importance in small size.”

Other important offerings include the David Davis Collection of more than 100 of the first 200 chartered National Banks that had charter numbers printed on the notes, with nearly a complete A to Z Brown Back set from Ohio. Michigan Obsoletes are also part of this collection.

Continuing Knight’s decade-long tradition of offering Costa Rica paper money, the Swift Collection slated for sale at this year’s CPMX boasts many types not previously offered by the firm as well as “several old friends” from Knight’s past auctions that should be of interest to collectors of Latin America and world notes.

One of the world’s leading numismatic events focused solely on paper money, CPMX will feature an 85-booth all-paper money bourse area, club meetings, educational programs, Krause Publications paper money reference materials and more. Bourse table holders will have available for sale a full array of collectible paper money, stocks, bonds and related ephemera.
