The 2016 issue in the Native American dollar coin series honors the native Code Talkers who fought in both World War I and World War II. The reverse design features two infantrymen’s helmets; the helmet on the left is from WWI while the helmet on the right is from WWII. A single feather is located behind each helmet, slanted so the quills cross at the bottom. WWI is inscribed on the left and WWII is inscribed on the right. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and $1 are located above and between the helmets. The phrase CODE TALKERS conforms to the round edge of the bottom of the coin.

The reverse was designed by Thomas D. Rogers, Sr.; his initials TDR are found beneath the WWI helmet. Renata Gordon (View Designer’s Profile) engraved the artwork; her initials RG are found on the WWII side.

Since the series’ initial release in 2000, the obverse designed by Glenna Goodacre has featured Sacagawea and her young child Jean Baptiste, and includes the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST.

Native American $1 coin products are available for order from the United States Mint’s online catalog. Interested buyers can also take part in the Mint’s special enrollment program for this coin.
