The United States Mint will open sales for one of its most important 2026 American Eagle gold releases on Thursday, May 28, at noon EDT. The new 2026 American Eagle One Ounce Gold Enhanced Uncirculated Coin marks America’s 250th anniversary with dual dates, a Liberty Bell privy mark, and a low mintage limit of just 7,500 coins. For the first 24 hours, the Mint will limit orders to one coin per household.
That small mintage gives this release immediate collector interest. However, the story goes deeper than numbers. This one-year-only American Gold Eagle connects the nation’s Semiquincentennial to one of the greatest designs in American coinage: Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Liberty.
A Gold Eagle Built for the Semiquincentennial
The 2026-W Gold Eagle carries the dual dates “1776 ~ 2026.” In addition, the coin features a Liberty Bell privy mark with the numeral “250.” The Mint created those features to honor the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding.
That makes the coin more than a standard annual release. Instead, it creates a distinct 2026 subtype within the American Eagle Gold Coin series. Collectors often respond strongly to one-year design features, especially when they appear on a flagship U.S. Mint gold product.

The Mint says the 2026 obverse draws from the original bronze cast of Saint-Gaudens’ Liberty. It also restores and refines legacy details, including the U.S. Capitol Building, stars, torch, and sun rays.
That artistic link gives the coin its backstory. Saint-Gaudens’ Liberty first appeared on the 1907 $20 double eagle.
