On Thursday, August 11, 2016, the Numismatic Literary Guild (NLG) held its annual Numismatic Literary Guild Awards, known as the “NLG Bash”, among the festivities of the ANA World’s Fair of Money. During this night, Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) came away big, hauling three awards between PCGS President Don Willis and PCGS CoinFacts President Ron Guth.

Willis received the award for Best Software for PCGS apps for mobile phones.

During the same ceremony, Guth earned an Extraordinary Merit Award for his book The 100 Greatest Women on Coins and the Best Blog Award for his recent blog series, “The Lord St. Oswald Coins – Where Are They Now?”

At a separate ceremony, the ANA Awards Banquet, Guth also received a second place Heath Literary Award for his article “The 100 Greatest Women on Coins,” which appeared in The Numismatist.

“As industry leaders, we place a tremendous pressure upon ourselves to constantly push the envelope, and with apps like Cert Verification, CoinFacts, Price Guide and Photograde, we feel that we’re taking numismatics into the digital future,” said Willis.

PCGS recently began developing apps to adjust to the ubiquitous nature of smartphones. The company currently has five apps, which can be found on www.PCGS.com/apps.

These latest NLG awards are nothing new to Guth, who was previously honored by the Guild for his books Coin Collecting For Dummies and The 100 Greatest U.S. Coins in 2001 and 2003, respectively.

“I’m honored to receive these awards, as the NLG Bash is the biggest awards ceremony of the year in our industry, a night where you can really feel the camaraderie of the coin industry. It’s a bit like the Oscars of the film industry for us,” said Guth.

The NLG Bash took place on August 11, 2016 in Anaheim, California at the Anaheim Hilton, room “California D.” Other awards presented at the NLG Bash include: Best All Around Portfolio, Best Article or Series of Articles and the Clemy Award, among others.
