Perth Mint Coin Profiles – Australia 2018 Wedge-Tailed Eagle 1oz Silver Proof Coin

Perth Mint Wedge-Tailed Eagle Proof

This silver coin celebrates one of Australia’s most incredible birds of prey, the wedge-tailed eagle. These majestic creatures can often be seen perched in trees and on rocks and cliffs, from where they have a clear view of their surroundings, enabling them to defend their territory and identify prey.

Each coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver in proof quality and issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

The Perth Mint will issue no more than 5,000 of the Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle 2018 1oz Silver Proof Coin.

Design

The coin’s reverse depicts a mother wedge-tailed eagle looking down on a chick. A male bird is portrayed hovering above them with its magnificent wings fully extended. The design also includes the inscription AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE, the 2018 year-date, the coin’s weight and fineness, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark. This is the third wedge-tailed eagle design for The Perth Mint by renowned sculptor and engraver John M. Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint.

The coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.

Designer(s):
