Perth Mint Unveils 2016 Australian Bullion Coin Program including New Silver Kangaroo coin

The Perth Mint is proud to unveil a new Australian Silver Kangaroo coin to an audience of international financiers, bullion distributors and investors.

This latest addition to the Australian Bullion Coin Program gives investors the opportunity to secure the country’s animal icon, which has traditionally been found on its premium gold investment coin series, in pure silver.

The new Silver Kangaroo coin honours the classic design which has featured on the Australian Kangaroo gold kilo release for more than two decades, and is the first Australian coin to be struck to the purity of 9999 silver.

Offering a new security detail, the coin includes an authentication feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter ‘A’, which can be found within the first A of AUSTRALIA. It is only detectable under a magnifying glass and is designed to make it significantly more difficult for the coin to be counterfeited.

This newest offering in the Nation’s suite of investment coins will enable The Perth Mint to compete in the mainstream bullion coin industry in the world’s largest markets, said Perth Mint Acting General Manager Marketing Neil Vance.

silver_kangarooWe are confident that the Silver Kangaroo will help us double our market share in the United States, Europe and globally, as it is issued with an unlimited mintage and is only available for purchase in large quantities,” he added.

To complement the launch, The Perth Mint also released the 2016 designs of Australia’s annual bullion coin program. Maintaining its wildlife theme, the series showcases the Nation’s iconic fauna in their natural environment, and also the monkey as the ninth animal in the ancient Chinese lunar calendar.

The renowned Australian Kangaroo and Australian Lunar 99.99% pure gold bullion coins are available in sizes ranging from 1/20oz to 1 kilogram, while the popular Australian Kookaburra, Koala and Lunar 99.9% pure silver issues are available from 1/2oz to 10 kilograms.  A special Australian Platypus 1oz 99.95% pure platinum release completes the trio of precious metals offered.

Each coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.

Mr Vance added, “Reflecting the popularity of the program, sales of Australia’s bullion coins contribute 87% of The Perth Mint’s total coins sold.”

To satisfy the expected high level of demand, The Perth Mint will release the program over the next five months.  In September, the gold Kangaroo and new silver Kangaroo will be available, followed by the gold and silver Lunar issues in October, the Kookaburra in November, and the Koala and Platypus in January.

The 2016 Australian Bullion Coin Program is available for purchase from the Bullion Trading Desk at The Perth Mint, 310 Hay Street in East Perth. Orders can also be placed via the Mint’s dedicated BullionLine 1300 201 112 (Australia), +61 8 9421 7218 (International) or at www.perthmintbullion.com  Investors can also check the availability of these releases with leading bullion coin distributors worldwide.
