Three Distinguished Numismatists Added To PCGS CoinFacts™ Coin Dealer Hall of Fame

The PCGS CoinFacts™ Coin Dealer Hall of Fame has inducted three more renowned members. The dealers now added to the prestigious list are Édouard Frossard (1837 – 1899), Harry J. Forman (1924 – 2008) and John “JD” Dannreuther (born in 1948).

The induction ceremony was part of the PCGS Set Registry luncheon on August 14, 2015 during the American Numismatic Association (ANA) Chicago World’s Fair of Money.

Frossard was a Swiss immigrant who taught French in New York City, conducted coin auctions and was editor of the controversial numismatic publication, Numisma. Today his name is associated with works on U.S. Half Cents, Large Cents and Franco-American Jetons.

Foreman was a well-known Philadelphia dealer who was a market maker in the purchase and resale of bank-wrapped rolls of coins, 1000-coin bags of Morgan and Peace dollars and United States proof sets. In 2001, he received the American Numismatic Association’s highest honor, the Farran Zerbe Award, for his many years of support of the organization and the hobby.

jd_awardDannreuther is an award-winning numismatic author and researcher who has attended virtually every major coin auction since the 1970s, taking copious notes for his ongoing research projects. He is a top expert on U.S. proof coins, 1792 – 1964, and was a co-founder of Professional Coin Grading Service in 1986.

Additional biographical information about Frossard, Foreman and Dannreuther and the 22 previous inductees in the PCGS CoinFacts Coin Dealer Hall of Fame can be found here.

The Hall of Fame was created in 2010 to recognize outstanding dealers, past and present, who have made the most significant contributions to numismatics and who have handled great coins and great collections,” said Don Willis, President of Professional Coin Grading Service, a division of Collectors Universe, Inc. PCGS Co-Founder and Collectors Universe President David Hall explained: “The motto of the Hall of Fame is a quote by Sir Isaac Newton, ‘If I have seen farther it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.’ We believe that is certainly true in our hobby and profession.”
