In a room full of the most serious collectors and dealers in United States paper money a record price of $2,585,000 was paid for an 1891 $1000 Treasury Note.

This is one of only two known for the design and the only example available for collectors. The lot opened at $1,150,000 and after spirited bidding set a record price.

The Central States Numismatic Society, founded in 1939, is one of the larger numismatic organizations in the United States with membership fluctuating around 2,000. CSNS, as it is known informally, operates in a 13 state Midwestern region but membership is open to residents of all states and foreign countries.
