With the reported pending $7.395 million sale of the unique 1787 Brasher Doubloon, the most valuable certified United States gold, silver and copper coins are in Professional Coin Grading Service holders.

“The most recent national numismatic treasure in the news is the one-of-a- kind Brasher Doubloon with designer Ephraim Brasher’s initials, EB, on the eagle’s breast. This coin is graded PCGS AU50. The Brasher Doubloon is reportedly in the process of being formally sold next month by a large numismatic firm at a record price for any certified, encapsulated gold coin, nearly $7.4 million,” said Don Willis, President of PCGS, a division of Collectors Universe, Inc. (NASDAQ: CLCT).

“It’s been a record-setting year for top rare coins, and we are pleased to see that most valuable, certified United States gold, silver and copper coins were all certified for authenticity and graded by PCGS,” said David Hall, President of Collectors Universe and Founder of PCGS.

“We are preparing a new issue of the PCGS CoinFacts Million Dollar Coin Club listings that will contain many updates from last year’s edition, and the Brasher Doubloon will be a welcomed addition.”

In March of this year, the finest known 1793 AMERI variety (S-1) Large Cent, graded PCGS Secure Plus SP65, was valued at more than $2 million when it changed hands in a private transaction.

In May, the unique specimen 1794 Flowing Hair dollar, believed by many experts to be the very first silver dollar struck by the United States Mint, was sold for $7.85 million to set the record as the world’s most valuable rare coin. It is graded PCGS SP66.

With more than 23 million coins graded commanding a total current market value of over $26 billion, PCGS represents the industry standard in third- party certification. PCGS is a division of Collectors Universe, Inc. (NASDAQ: CLCT).
