Kennedy Half Dollar Two-Roll Set and 200-Coin Bag Available February 24
By CoinWeek News Staff….
Come noon Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, February 23, the 2016 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set will be available for order from the United States Mint.
Every year since 2010, the America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set has contained Proof versions–minted in San Francisco–of all five circulating commemorative quarter releases. The reverses on this year’s quarters honor Shawnee National Forest (Illinois), the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park (Kentucky), Harpers Ferry National Historical Park (West Virginia), Theodore Roosevelt National Park (North Dakota) and Fort Moultrie (Fort Sumter National Monument) in South Carolina.
The obverse of each quarter continues to feature an adapted version of John Flanagan’s iconic effigy of George Washington, first released in 1932.
So far, only the Shawnee National Forest quarter and its various product options have been released into circulation or made available for order. Rolls and bags were made available on February 1, as was the 5 oz silver bullion coin version. An official launch ceremony for the quarter, which involved multiple speakers, activities for kids and a quarter exchange, took place on February 4. The three-coin set came out yesterday on February 22.
The Shawnee National Forest 5 oz Uncirculated silver coin is set for release on Feb. 25.
Initial product options for the Cumberland Gap quarter are scheduled for release in April. Harpers Ferry products will be available starting in June and July.
Theodore Roosevelt National Park quarter roll sand bags go on sale in August, but the corresponding three-coin and Uncirculated 5 oz silver coin won’t be available until October.
Options for the Fort Moultrie quarter won’t be released until November and December.
In other U.S. Mint news, orders for the 2016 Kennedy half dollar two-roll set (featuring coins from Philadelphia and Denver) and 200-coin bags (P & D) begin at noon EST on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
