By Agora Auctions….
Agora Auctions sale #36 is live and so is the dedicated Spartan numismatic sale #68. The sale starts at noon on July 14 and starts he same day. Spartan is not using the buy/bid format used in previous catalogs for this sale. This change has allowed them to significantly lower the estimates and starting bids. In this sale, the estimate is well-below average market value and the minimum bid represents a sub-wholesale start to the bidding (often less than the price paid for the coin). We are hopeful this this new pricing will lead to a very active auction. Do not be afraid to bid above estimate, we expect many coins to exceed the estimated price.
Highlights
There are many highlights to the July 14 Ancient Coin auction. The Greek section has a choice Syracuse Tetradrachm, a Hannibal-period drachm of Bruttium, a gold stater of Alexander the Great, an electrum hekte of Lesbos and a portrait bronze of the famous Cleopatra.

Roman coins include a Pompey denarius, a nice Julius Caesar elephant, coins of all the Twelve Caesars and rare issue such as Maximus, Balbinus and Aemelian.

The Medieval section includes a collection of Sicilian coins, a Saxony Taler, and a nice run of Crusader coins.

The sale concludes with a strong antiquities section.
