Alderney 2015 Salvation Army 150th Anniversary £5 Proof Silver Coin

Description:

The Salvation Army traces its roots back 150 years to the poor sections of Victorian London’s East End, when traveling preacher William Booth saw an opportunity to evangelize the Christian message to the marginalized and forgotten. Through a structured system built upon faith and service, the Salvation Army has become a global institution for good, transforming the lives of those that answer who answer the call to volunteer and those, whose desperate circumstances beckon them to call out for help.

The Royal Mint has struck uncirculated and proof £5 silver coins for the Channel Island of Alderney. This coin marks the first time that the Royal Mint has struck a coin for the Christian non-profit organization.

Obverse:

Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II sits in the center of the coin. Rank-Broadley’s initials IRB are located just beneath the bust truncation. Wrapping around the coin are the following inscriptions: ELIZABETH II, 2015, ALDERNEY, and FIVE POUNDS.

Reverse:

The Salvation Army Shield positioned at 6 o’clock. Surrounding the shield is a wreath that wraps around the perimeter of the coin and extends to the top of the design. A ribbon at the top is inscribed 150 YEAR ANNIVERSARY.
