Fraudulent Money Orders

During the past couple of weeks, the Numismatic Crime Information Center (NCIC) has been working with our Postal Inspector contacts in Los Angeles, California in reference to bad money orders coming from an address in LA. The suspect’s MO is to purchase gold coins using fake or altered money orders.

Based upon our investigation there is another possible suspect and address:

The information has been forwarded to the USPS Mail Fraud Team. NCIC database records indicate suspicious activity from the same address approximately 12 months ago.

Hotel Room Burglary

On September 28, the hotel room of coin dealer Bill Barry, owner of WEB COINS, was burglarized. The Red Roof Inn door was popped open and the safe jimmied. The Susquehanna, Pennsylvania Police Department is investigating.

Stolen Coins:

  • 2 Double row boxes silver dollars average circulated
  • Standing Lib quarters AU-UNC approx 400
  • Box 90 Bust halves attributed with notation of rarity XF/AU
  • Buffalo nickels 75 tougher dates VF/UNC
  • Cents approx. 150 large and small
  • Buffalo nickels VG/F approx. 200
  • 21-21d mercury dimes approx. 20
  • 40 silver rounds

Jewelry Store Robbery

Law Enforcement Requests Assistance

The St. George, Utah Police Department is investigating an armed robbery of a jewelry store.

The suspect entered the store posing as an FBI agent and stole a large amount of jewelry. A witness stated that his fake beard appeared to be covering up a pigment discoloration of his chin area. The suspect was seen leaving in a charcoal gray four-door passenger vehicle. The stolen items consisted of gold and silver rings, some with diamonds.

The suspect may attempt to sell the stolen jewelry at coin shops or gold and silver exchanges.
