In January 2016, the Austrian Mint gave CoinWeek unprecedented access to the inner workings of their state-of-the art coining facility.
In this video, we share we share with you the entire minting process for the silver Vienna Philharmonic bullion coin.
Silver stackers and coin collectors will be intrigued to learn about the entirely automated process by which the Silver Vienna Philharmonic bullion coin in struck.
Watch as bins filled with silver 1 ounce planchets are lifted into the Grabener coin press and struck at a rate faster than 1 per second. See a close up view of the striking process. Our cameras follow the struck coins along the conveyer as they are spirited away into an automated packing machine.
Only the final step of this amazing process requires a human worker.
The Austrian Mint is a state-of-the art money factory and CoinWeek’s camera and microphones captured the unique sights and sounds of this amazing place.
