CoinWeek Podcast #26: Women on 20s Founder Barbara Ortiz Howard Talks Tens and Twenties and Why It’s Important to Recognize the Greatness of American Women
Last year, businesswoman Barbara Ortiz Howard and journalist Susan Ades Stone joined forces to prompt a public discussion about gender representation on U.S. currency. Their goal: to compel the Treasury Department to replace Andrew Jackson with an historically-important American woman… and to do it in time to celebrate the centennial of women’s suffrage in 2020.
The effort went viral, and after several rounds of voting, civil rights advocate and freedom fighter Harriet Tubman emerged as the public’s choice.
In this episode of the CoinWeek Podcast, CoinWeek Editor Charles Morgan has a candid conversation with Women on 20s Founder Barbara Ortiz Howard to discuss the movement, the importance of fair representation to the culture, and what her organization feels about Treasury Secretary Jack Lew’s recent announcements regarding the $10 and $20 bill.
