The previous three sessions have been met with great fanfare and record prices and some of the most important and rare 19th-century American currency pieces have come up for auction.
In this, the fourth session, Stack’s Bowers will conclude this series of sales by offering 54 lots.
Leading the way are three notes which are expected to bring prices in excess of $1.5 to $2 million.
In this video, Stack’s Bowers paper money expert Peter Treglia sits with CoinWeek editor Charles Morgan to discuss the 1869 $500 and $1,000 “Rainbow” notes, as well as the King of the Silver Certificates, the 1891 $1,000 “Marcy” note.
These three high denomination notes are the only examples in private hands and are sure to bring spirited bidding when the sale goes live at the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo in Baltimore.
