At the Florida United Numismatists (FUN) Summer 2016 Show in Orlando, Florida, CoinWeek met up with coin dealer Leo Frese to discuss a new coin certification program that has been developed with OSV (Original Set Verification) and ANACS. Now collectors can submit double mint sets for grading and authentication. ANACS will grade each coin in the double mint set and mount them in special double mint set holders, supplying each holder with a composite grade that takes into account the quality of each coin and its attribution (Full Bell Lines, Full Steps, Full Torch). OSV will then inspect the set (coins, boards, and envelope) for originality. Sets that are deemed original earn an OSV sticker. Original sets with notable color earn a Rainbow OSV sticker.
According to Frese, this market innovation is meant to enhance the value of original double mint sets while preserving the coins together for future generations of collectors.
In this CoinWeek 4K Video we hear Frese talk about the program and get a hands-on look at a few of the sets that have come to market.
