In Memoriam: Cherrypicker’s Guide Author J.T. Stanton (1952-2018)

J.T. Stanton
Dennis Tucker– I have a heavy heart today. J.T. Stanton , longtime numismatist and coauthor (with Bill Fivaz) of the “Cherrypickers’ Guide,” passed away this morning after a stay in the hospital. J.T. was a wonderful soul, full of good cheer and humor, always happy to share his keen insight, firm in his studied opinions but willing to listen to others; an educator, a mentor to many, a constant student of the art and science of numismatics, and an enthusiastic ambassador for the hobby. He leaves an imprint on our community that will last for generations, thanks to his books and writings. I was his publisher for 14 years. I’m grateful for the memories I carry. Thank you, J.T.”

  2. The Cherrypickers’ Guide authored by J.T. and his dear friend Bill Fivaz was the spark that reignited my interest in numismatics after being totally dormant in the hobby for about 15 years. I can’t begin to count how many cool varieties I have spotted with my loupe just because of the Cherrypickers’ Guide! I have always found my visits with J.T. to be very pleasant and cordial, whether meeting with him on the phone or in person. When I popped him a question or two, he was always generous enough to share his vast knowledge of this hobby that we all love. To Susan and the rest of J.T. family, I pass on sincere sympathies. Blessed be J. T.’s memory!
