Mark Schimel Joins Stack’s Bowers Galleries as New York Gallery Manager

Stack’s Bowers Galleries is pleased to announce that Mark Schimel has joined their organization as the New York gallery manager at the company’s flagship store at 123 West 57th Street. Stack’s has been at this address since 1953, the longest any numismatic firm has remained in the same location. Situated in the center of the Art District it has long been a magnet for visitors.

Mark began collecting before the age of 10 and later became a frequent visitor to our gallery. After many years of collecting a variety of coin series and forming notable collections, he brings his professional career in numismatics “home” again to the place where much of it began, Stack’s Bowers in New York City.

Mark comments:

“This is a dream come true for me to become part of the company that has been so important to my collecting interests from the beginning. The Stack family and Dave Bowers were key to the development of my interest in coins and currency at a very early age.”

Mark started his professional numismatic career in Philadelphia working part time for Andy Kaufman of Coins and Currency Inc. while attending the University of Pennsylvania. From that institution he earned his BA and eventually his MBA from the Wharton School. After graduation he pursued other professional interests, while remaining an avid collector, and returned to a career in numismatics in 2012.

“Mark’s expertise, based on his lifetime in numismatics, is a perfect fit for our firm. We are delighted to have someone who understands both sides of the coin counter so well” stated Brian Kendrella, company president. “Please take the time to stop in and introduce yourself to Mark the next time you visit New York City. A warm welcome awaits you.”
