PCGS Announces 2018 Set Registry Award Winners

PCGS 2018 Set Registry Awards

For 16 years, the PCGS Set Registry has been awarding top sets. Just fifteen sets were recognized in 2002 and every year since then the numbers of outstanding sets has grown. This year, a record 291 sets and collections are receiving top honors. It is no wonder considering there are now over 92,000 sets listed, 16,500 collectors participating, and 1,428,600 coins registered in active inventories.

Judging has become increasingly difficult because there are so many great sets registered. Think about the fact that nearly 37,000 of these sets have a completion factor in the 90-100% range. 136 countries are represented and within those countries there are 6,825 categories from which to choose. The statistics are impressive. The PCGS Set Registry has become the foremost online destination for collectors from around the world.

The PCGS Set Registry also recognizes the sets that, although are not platinum or gold winners, are number one in their category and at least 95% complete. This year there are 6,801 “Best of the Registry” winners, another record number.

Many sets in the Registry have been ranked number one for ten years in a row. These sets are awarded the “Ten Year Anniversary” icon by their sets to recognize the owners of these collections for their commitment to their hobby.

2018 was an amazing year for the PCGS Set Registry. As the Registry grows, and more collectors assemble unique and high-quality sets, the passion and dedication continues to impress the judges. For all who participate in the Registry, thank you for making it so special.

BEST OF THE REGISTRY CERTIFICATE WINNERS OF 2018

The owners of 6,801 sets will receive the “Best of the Registry” award icon by their set for being in the top spot and at least 95% complete (or in the case of large set compositions, those sets with 500 or more coins registered in one set). Certificates of Merit will be gladly printed and mailed at the winner’s request. If you are a “Best of the Registry” winner and would like to receive an award certificate, please email [email protected]. In addition, let us know if you would like a different name printed on your certificate other than name you use for your set on the website.

Sets which have held the number position for ten years in a row are honored with a 10 Year Anniversary icon. The recipients of this award will see the icons placed by their sets within the next two weeks. Click here to view this amazing list.

2019 AWARDS

Inductions into the PCGS Set Registry Hall of Fame, and Platinum and Gold will be awarded to outstanding sets. In addition, “Best of the Registry” icons will be awarded to each set that is ranked number one with at a least 95% completion, or in the case of large set compositions, those sets with 500 or more coins registered. Note that the completion requirement may be waived if the judges deem a set worthy.
