Rare Coins: 18 Featured Collections at Heritage FUN Show Auction

Heritage is proud to be the Official Auctioneer at the 62nd Annual FUN Show, with our US Coin Signature auction set for January 4-9 and two additional auctions, covering US currency and rare world paper money, also scheduled for this convention.

Platinum Night, always the highlight of the FUN festivities, is scheduled for January 5.

Warm weather and “the beach” are big Fort Lauderdale attractions in early January, but for numismatists, the bellwether event is the Annual FUN Convention. Always a harbinger of what the rare coin market will bring in the coming months, the FUN Show is one of Heritage’s most important auction venues and we look forward to a strong start.

This year, we have an impressive list of eighteen Featured Collections in this auction, including:

  • The Hutchinson Collection
  • The Soluna Collection
  • The Sounder Collection, Part II
  • The Arizona Treasure Collection
  • The Azalea Collection
  • The Fenn Family Collection, Part III
  • Selections From The Dr. James C. Kirk Collection of Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles
  • The Dale Friend Collection of 1864 Proof Coinage
  • The James Swan Collection of Standing Liberty Quarters
  • The Casady Collection
  • The Mile High Collection
  • The Stichter Collection
  • The Renz Family Collection of $20 Gold Coins
  • The Hotel Harrington Collection
  • The Palos Verdes Collection
  • Selections From The Collection of Dr. Donald Knaack
  • The Blue Angel Collection of Bicentennial Errors
  • The Dr. Steve Allen Collection

As is so common with Heritage’s FUN auctions, this one is replete with rarities from all corners of US numismatics.

  • The Fenn Family Collection Part III supplies a 1909-O half eagle, graded as a Gem by NGC, one of four coins so graded by the major services with but a single coin higher.
  • An 1802 dime, ex: Eliasberg, is graded AU53 by PCGS. 1802 dimes are unknown in Mint State, and only a single coin, counted twice in the census, has been certified finer.
  • A 1792 Half Disme, an example of the first output from the US Mint, grades MS66 according to PCGS and is surpassed in grade by only two other examples of the date.
  • The Hutchinson Collection provides numerous early half eagles to this auction, led by the 1828, graded MS62 by PCGS, a coin with an illustrious pedigree that includes names like Mickley, Garrett, and Bass. We are aware of only nine examples of this date in existence.
  • An 1884 Trade Dollar, one of only 10 in existence, needs little introduction. This one, graded Proof-63 by PCGS, comes from the Sounder collection.
