U.S. Mint Director Paul Hollis Brings 250th Anniversary Coins to the Old New Orleans Mint

U.S. Mint Celebrates America’s 250th With Special Coins in New Orleans

United States Mint Director Paul Hollis will visit the New Orleans Jazz Museum, “the Old U.S. Mint,” on May 8 for a special public event celebrating America’s Semiquincentennial.

The event runs from 4 to 6 p.m. CDT at the New Orleans Jazz Museum. It marks one of the Mint’s public programs tied to the Nation’s 250th anniversary.

Hollis, the 41st Director of the United States Mint and a Louisiana native, will explain how the Mint is honoring the Semiquincentennial through special coins and medals. In addition, Brandon Beach, Treasurer of the United States, will attend the event.

Collectors Can Buy 2026 Mint Products On-Site

The United States Mint will operate a pop-up retail space during the event. As a result, collectors and visitors can purchase several 2026 Mint products, including the:

American Buffalo 2026 One Ounce Gold Proof Coin
American Buffalo 2026 One Ounce Gold Proof Coin

American Buffalo 2026 One Ounce Gold Proof Coin (26EL), American Eagle 2026 One Ounce Silver Proof Coin (26EA), Congratulations Set 2026 (26RF), and American Eagle 2026 Gold Proof Coins (26EC, 26EB, 26ED, and 26EE).

These offerings give attendees a direct connection to the Mint’s 2026 numismatic program.

2026 Dime and Quarter Exchange Adds Hands-On Appeal

The event also includes a coin machine that exchanges $1 and $5 bills for circulating 2026 coins. Guests can receive the 2026 Emerging Liberty Dime and the 2026 Revolutionary War Quarter.

This feature gives families, new collectors, and longtime numismatists a hands-on way to mark the Nation’s 250th anniversary.

Historic Mint Exhibit Connects New Orleans to U.S. Coinage

Visitors can also access the museum’s first-floor exhibit from the Old New Orleans Mint. The exhibit includes a Morgan & Orr coin press, a Troemner bullion scale, and displays of coins minted on-site.

Together, these artifacts highlight New Orleans’ important role in United States coinage history.

Free Public Event Requires Advance Registration

The United States Mint and Louisiana America 250 will also provide free educational and informational resources during the program.

The event is family-friendly, free, and open to the public. However, guests must register in advance.
