In recent years, very few dealers have had the impact that Rob Oberth has had on the professional numismatic community.

Rob’s upstart facebook group Coin Dealers Helping Coin Dealers (CDHCD) has blossomed into one of the industry’s most effective 21st-century networking and marketing groups.

Now boasting hundreds of active dealers, CDHCD and its counterpart group RoundTable Trading, has developed into a 24/7, 24-hours-a-day trading platform, where dealers can shop around new purchases with trusted dealers from across the country, creating a new real-time market for coins. But the group’s impact on the dealing community goes beyond simply buying and selling coins. Rob explains that one of the most important and impactful aspects of being involved in the group is the ability for dealers to share professional insights and knowledge.

This fosters not only camaraderie amongst dealers but also lessens the often steep learning curve that new dealers face when they begin their careers or delve into market areas that they are not familiar with.

In this CoinWeek video, Charles Morgan sits down with Rob to discuss the steps new dealers should take when starting out. The two discuss how to price, how to buy, which deals to buy and which deals to pass on, as well as a whole host of topics that every potential dealer must understand before taking the plunge into this exciting career.

This is critical coin industry information that is seldom discussed, but Rob and Charles go over the basics of coin dealing in a way that is direct and easy to understand. Whether you are a vest pocket dealer or a serious collector that deals on the side, you will enjoy listening to this conversation.
