On Wednesday, August 29, 2018, CoinWeek Editor Charles Morgan burned the midnight oil and hosted an impromptu Livestream on the CoinWeek YouTube channel where he talked about his process in analyzing the market value of a conditionally rare 1932 quarter.
He discussed the growth of certified populations and the impact that adding just a few coins to the top grade has on the market value of coins when they come to auction. He talked about the impact of CAC stickers on top population coins and what happens to the population when coins stay off the market for a period of years and are not sent in for regrades.
It’s a complex multi-layered discussion that illustrates how much you won’t find out about the market by simply relying on auction records and price guides.
Charles also took viewer questions for thirty minutes, answering questions about strong areas in the market, whether world coins and ancient coins are a good area to collect, and what his favorite coin is (spoiler: Charles says its this beautifully toned 1970 East German 10 Mark).
It’s a fun hour spent talking about coins in an honest and unfiltered way.
