The United States Mint’s special 250th Anniversary United States Army American Silver Eagle Proof Coin, which began its pre-sale on June 13, 2025, at noon ET, remains available for purchase one month after its initial pre-release. This 99.9% silver proof coin, struck at the West Point Mint, is still slated for shipping on July 30, 2025. Production is limited to 100,000 coins, and the initial household order limit of three coins for the first 24 hours of sale has now passed. As of the time of publication, the Mint is still accepting orders with a household order limit of one.
A distinctive feature of this coin is the U.S. Army seal, serving as a privy mark on the obverse, which celebrates the Army’s 250th anniversary. The obverse also showcases Adolph A. Weinman’s iconic “Walking Liberty” design, inscribed with “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2025.” The reverse, designed by Emily S. Damstra and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso, depicts an eagle approaching a nest with an oak branch, bearing the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.” The coin also features enhanced security measures, including a reeded edge variation.
Analysis of Collectibility
Despite the coin’s continued availability, the 250th Anniversary United States Army American Silver Eagle Proof is expected to appreciate both in the short and long term. This is due to its limited production run, significant historic commemoration, and its place in the exclusive “privy mark” series within the broader collection.
While a mintage of 100,000 coins is relatively low for an American Silver Eagle Proof, the fact that it hasn’t sold out immediately suggests that initial demand didn’t overwhelm the supply. This doesn’t make it any less scarce; it simply means the immediate buying frenzy often seen with highly anticipated Mint releases didn’t happen as intensely for this particular issue.
However, over time, a mintage of this size for a commemorative Silver Eagle remains genuinely low and can still boost its collectibility, especially in the certified coin aftermarket. It’s still unclear what the split between PR69 and PR70 graded coins will be, but given the Mint’s high quality standards, we wouldn’t be surprised if 70% of certified coins achieve the coveted “perfect grade.”
