Atlas Numismatics Drops 589 New Rarities – Ancient Masterpieces, Gold Ducats, and Museum-Level Coins Hit Market

Atlas Numismatics has released a major new fixed-price list. In total, 589 coins, medals, and tokens are now available through its website. The selection spans ancient Greece, early modern Europe, and rare world gold issues.

Notably, this update highlights elite material. Collectors will find museum-quality rarities, high-grade certified coins, and historically significant pieces throughout the offering.

Updates to Atlas Numismatics’ online inventory are issued monthly. However, this latest release stands out for both depth and quality.

Ancient Icon: Syracuse Decadrachm by Kimon

One of the most important coins in the offering is an unsigned decadrachm attributed to the master engraver Kimon.

GREEK. SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I. (Tyrant, 407-367 BC). Struck c. 405-400 BC. AR Decadrachm. NGC VF (Very Fine)
GREEK. SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I. (Tyrant, 407-367 BC). Struck c. 405-400 BC. AR Decadrachm. NGC VF (Very Fine)

1085365 | GREEK. SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I (407–367 BC)
Struck circa 405–400 BC. AR Decadrachm. NGC VF. Strike 4/5, Surface 5/5. Fine Style.
31.5mm. 43.12 grams.
Price: $49,500

This massive silver coin ranks among the largest denominations of classical antiquity. As a result, engravers had the space to display extraordinary artistry.

The obverse shows a dynamic quadriga racing left. Above, Nike crowns the charioteer. Below, military arms rest beneath a heavy exergual line. Meanwhile, the reverse features the nymph Arethousa, surrounded by four dolphins.

Historically, the decadrachm returned under Dionysios I after a brief earlier experiment in the 460s BC. At that moment, Syracuse aimed to assert dominance in the Greek world. Consequently, artists like Kimon and Euainetos elevated coin design to new heights.

PCGS SP65. 32mm. 23.13 grams.
Price: $59,500

This piece stands among the most historically significant coins in the group.

Jung Bahadur, Nepal’s powerful prime minister, commissioned special gold coins for diplomatic presentation. In 1850, he traveled to London and met Queen Victoria at St. James’s Palace. During that visit, he presented these coins as gifts.

Each duitola asarphi bears the name of Surendra Vikrama or earlier rulers. Interestingly, many examples were struck well after their stated dates. In fact, the denomination itself only standardized after 1833 under the British East India Company.

All original examples now reside in the British Museum. Therefore, pieces like this rarely appear on the market.
