Australia 2016 Silver Kangaroo $1 Coin

Description:

The Royal Australian Mint continues their popular series of Kangaroo coins, with this 2016 issue of the Silver Kangaroo one-ounce coin, featuring Australia’s Eastern Grey Kangaroo (Macropus giganteus). The Eastern Grey is native to Australia’s inland plain and eastern coast.

This 1 oz. silver coin is struck with a limited mintage of 5,000 pieces.

Obverse:

Ian Rank-Broadley’s classic effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Rank-Bradley’s initials IRB are located just beneath the bust truncation. Wrapping around the coin, just inside of the rim, are the inscriptions ELIZABETH II and AUSTRALIA 2016.

Reverse:

A mother Kangaroo with a joey in her pouch faces to the left in this scene from the Australian wilderness. Gum trees frame the Kangaroos in the foreground, as more trees dot the Australian wetlands at the foot of rugged mountain range in the background.

Inscriptions: ONE DOLLAR wraps around the rim at the top of the coin. 1 OZ .999 AG wraps around the coin’s rim at the bottom.

Designer(s):  Since 1998, Ian Rank-Broadley’s fourth effigy of Queen Elizabeth has served with distinction as the obverse for coins of the UK and the Commonwealth.  View Designer’s Profile.
