The Philadelphia Mint struck 8,830,000 Morgan Dollars in 1900, but the New Orleans Mint eclipsed this mintage that year. In terms of quality, there’s no comparison between the two. New Orleans issues are often flatly struck, while the Philadelphia issues range from average to sharp with varying degrees of luster. These considerations only come into play when collectors are pursuing gem-quality examples for their collections or registry sets. In the case of this, the sole finest known of the date, the coin’s quality is unquestionable.
This coin originates from the Jack Lee Collection. Then, it ranked among a select few 1900 Morgan Dollars graded MS67 by PCGS. In subsequent years, the grading service reassessed the coin’s quality, designating it the only MS68 across all grading services.
At the time of publication, the highest of 52 bids is $77,500. Bidding ends on June 8, 2025 at 5:48 PM Pacific Time.
