NICE WEEK

We didn’t figure to do much business this past week. Adding it all up, we certainly did far more then expected. And we had our usual Friday afternoon sale (the $1 1864 PCGS PR65 CAC). For whatever reason, Fridays at 3-4 PM we always seem do a bigger sale of some kind.

Very interesting what sold during the week. Certainly soup to nuts. Of course we sold several better gold coins, including several better $10 Indians. What really surprised us was the fact that we sold Patterns. We’re happy to see Patterns are finally getting the attention they deserve.

SPEAKING OF PATTERNS

We have long loved Patterns. Not fully because of Mr. Simpson. However, while helping him build his great unequaled Pattern collection we saw many amazing coins and learned a lot. We had always loved the beauty of these designs that could have been.

Pattern are genuinely rare. They are neat as heck and some are just too gorgeous. Most of all-they are GROSSLY UNDERvalued. Working with the Standard Series lately (see the Simpson Patterns we will be selling in May), these coins actually are RARER and cost LESS then examples of the same date and grade. Collectors should NOT be afraid of this area-it is NOT manipulated (that was 20+ years ago).

We came across this great article about Patterns written by Jeff Garrett, President of the ANA. We suggest you read it.

GET READY HERE COME THE AUCTIONS

Legend Numismatics is locked and loaded for the upcoming Pogue and Blue Moon sales. We are totally booked up on reps. It seems these auctions woke up some of our sleeping collectors. We’re not only representing our big guys, but several other collectors who have not been active in the last year of so. We have bids to “buy”, we certainly are NOT bottom fishing. So if you see us on the phone bidding–good luck! We KNOW there will be MANY “beyond” moon money record prices set.

Stack's Bowers catalogs for the Blue Moon Collection, Part I and the D. Brent Pogue Collection, Part VSadly we know we will not be alone. You will see a record turn out. Fresh coins of real quality and rarity in an auction are like throwing food into a hungry shark tank. When is the last time you saw a pop 2 Gobrecht for sale in GEM? The 1794 $1 not only is fresh–it is best you can buy without spending $2 million or more (if you could even get a better one). For great coins like these the money WILL come out. We doubt you will see these coins again any time soon–if in our life time.

Pogue will be a record breaker. While several coins may not realize the hyper-inflated prices Pogue paid (that is a story in itself), the prices they will realize will still be in record territory. This segment of the sale was postponed because of weakness only six months ago. Today, with the stock market up a few trillion (smart money seems to have pulled out and is looking for other areas) and with no other big auctions on the horizon, the sale will be packed and bidding WILL be ferocious. What a difference timing made here.

We are confident next week we will be typing our Market Report with sheer exhaustion and happiness from all we bought, and we will be crowing how strong the sales were with all the record prices realized. If we end up on the losing end, the market will be insanely strong–that’s how strong our bids are!

NEWPS

Another week of just a few NEWP coins offered, We probably won’t be offering a really big selection until mid-April. We plan on spending $2-3 MILLION in the next two weeks. Of that money, however, if we are lucky $100,000.00 will be for Want Lists. Too dry out there. Of course the very best coins will never make the web site and they might not be on Want Lists, but they are types we know certain buyers like. That is why in this market its good to work with a dealer who knows you-most of the really cool coins don’t make to web sites.

Stay tuned. We do expect to have a smaller but really good offering next week. Until then visit our web site, we have some really great and overlooked coins for sale-ALL are PCGS- and CAC-graded!
