Legend Regency Auction XIV Brings Close to $5 Million

regencyxivAnchored by huge numbers from the Coronet Collection, Legend Rare Coin Auctions’ Regency Auction XIV brings just shy of $5 million

On October 15, Legend Rare Coin Auctions wrapped up their 14th Regency Auction at The Bellagio in Las Vegas and the final numbers were impressive–especially for Morgan Dollars, which made up over half of the sale’s 355 lot count. The Regency Auction XIV was anchored by Part II of the Coronet Collection, previously the #1 all-time Mint State Morgan Dollar collection on the PCGS Set Registry, and the Gulf Coast Collection, another high-profile collection of Morgans. Of the auction’s nearly US$5 million total, the 32 Coronet Collection coins accounted for 49%. A packed house and furious internet bidding drove up prices over the course of the two-and-a-half hour sale.

Julie Abrams, Legend Rare Coin Auctions president, stated that this was “undoubtedly our finest auction to date. PCGS Registry Set trophy coins highlighted the stellar results and especially noteworthy were the 1919-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar, which brought just over $200,000.00, the 1894 Coronet Collection Morgan, which ended up at over $150,000.00, and of course the 1901 Morgan Dollar from the Coronet Collection, which was the most expensive coin we’ve auctioned to date at $587,500.00. Bidders flew in to Vegas from all over the country and created our strongest floor bidder attendance to date.”

After all was said and done, the final total settled just shy of $5 million, reaching $4,926,775.10 with buyer’s premium. Although it’s difficult to choose just a few highlights, some of the more accomplished lots brought huge money:
