By Bank of Papua New Guinea….
Loi M. Bakani, Governor of the Bank of Papua New Guinea, gives notice of the forthcoming issue into circulation of new K20 and K10 commemorative banknotes and a 50t coin, effective 21 May 2015.
K20 Commemorative Banknote
The K20 banknote has been resized as part of the banknote reform process undertaken by the Bank to standardize the size of Papua New Guinea banknotes. All other features of the banknote, such as the colour and all the design elements of the existing new series banknote, remain the same. However, the K20 banknote incorporates a special overprint of the 40th Anniversary of Papua New Guinea’s Independence and the National Bird of Paradise image above the Parliament House.
K10 Commemorative Banknote
The K10 banknote has also been resized to standardize Papua New Guinea banknotes. All other features of the banknote, such as the colour and all the design elements of the existing new series banknote, remain the same, but the K10 banknote also incorporates a special overprint of the XV Pacific Games logo in yellow, red, green, black and blue above the Parliament House.
Coloured and Standard 50t Coins
These two coins retain the dimensions and most design elements of the existing 50 toea coin except that one bears the Pacific Games colours (yellow, red, green, black and blue) while the other is without colour.
Material: Nickel-Plated Steel
Edge Type: Interrupted Serration
The banknotes and new 50 toea coins are legal tender as of 21 May 2015.
As of the time of publication, one Papua New Guinea kina (K1) trades for approximately $0.37 USD.
