Red Kettle Report: December 21 – 24, 2015

salvation army red kettle

By Hubert Walker for CoinWeek ….
An informal perusal of CoinWeek’s four-part 2015 Red Kettle Report suggests that Illinois leads the country in terms of gold coins donated to Salvation Army kettles this holiday season. Still, some states like Montana and North Dakota managed a hefty amount of news coverage so no trend is immediately apparent (other than the midwestern flavor of this year’s donations).

Krugerrands continued to be donated, as in Tulsa early last week, but the final week of kettle stations appears to have attracted more American Gold Eagles than before. Several locations have reported multiple coin drop-offs.

The Salvation Army’s famous bells stopped ringing on Christmas Eve, December 24, though the holiday program continues through January.
