Stack’s Bowers Galleries is proud to present the June 2025 Showcase Auction, an Official Auction of the Whitman Expos. Across five sessions of Numismatic Americana, Colonial and Federal coins, and Physical Cryptocurrency, numerous “named” collections are featured, along with properties from other important consignments.
Among the named collections are highly focused, specialized collections, such as The Claremont Collection of the tokens and medals produced by John Adams Bolen, the Ed Kuszmar Columbian Exposition Collection, and the NorthEast Collection of Bust Quarters. Other named cabinets, including the J. Francis Abacus, Pedro Guzman, G.L. Hermann, and Dr. R. Craig Kammerer collections, are more varied and offer coins from popular series, such as Indian Head Cents, Morgan Dollars, U.S. gold, and classic commemoratives. Rounding out the named collections are two PCGS Registry Sets: the Dodger Set of Morgan Dollars and the DJRaffel Set of 1940s Mint Sets.
“We’re excited to present the June 2025 Showcase auction,” said Brian Kendrella, president of Stack’s Bowers Galleries. “This sale highlights our tradition of offering outstanding collections built by devoted and knowledgeable collectors. The diversity and overall high quality of the coins being sold will attract bidders across many areas.”
Session one begins with a lovely selection of Betts and Comitia Americana medals, highlighted by lot 1008, an original bronze striking of the rare DeFleury at Stony Point medal. The outstanding Claremont Collection of John Adams Bolen tokens and medals begins at lot 1034 with the iconic and always popular Pioneer Baseball Club medal, a near gem in copper, followed by a gem in silvered white metal (lot 1035). Other delicacies from the talented Bolen cross the block in the following 125+ lots, a few of which were from his personal reference collection. Types like his Bar Copper copy in silver (lot 1036), the ca. 1864 Letter to Hamilton medal (lot 1057), or the unique “Copper Plate” (lot 1111) will see fierce competition from specialists. A diverse selection of Civil War and Sutler tokens follows, including many high-grade and high-rarity examples. A small offering of colonial coins begins at lot 1282, with the Newcomer-Clapp-Wurtzbach-Clarke-Boyd-Ford Noe-25 Oak Tree Threepence. Federal coins from half cents to Twenty-Cent Pieces round out the remainder of the session.
Session Two begins with the NorthEast Collection of Bust Quarters. Built over a long collecting career, this collection is a study in die states, featuring incredibly rare die cuds including lot 2023, the finest of three known 1806 B-6 with the cud at the lower left reverse, and lot 2026, the unique late die state “a” 1807 B-1. Quarters continue with beautiful gem-and-finer examples of Seated Liberty, Barber, and Standing Liberty types. Half dollars are also well represented by high-grade and beautifully preserved Capped Bust, Seated Liberty, Barber, and Walking Liberty types. Early silver dollars include lot 2200, a richly toned 1795 BB-51 Draped Bust example, graded AU55 by PCGS and CMQ approved. Morgan and Peace Dollars are represented by a wide range of dates and grades, and this sale offers a delightful assortment for novices and those competing for top spots on the PCGS or NGC Set Registries.
