U.S. Mint Reveals 2016 Shawnee National Park Quarter Design Candidates

Michael White from the United States Mint’s Office of Corporate Communications forwarded to CoinWeek the following design candidates for the 2016 Shawnee America the Beautiful National Parks Quarter.

The Shawnee National Forest, located in the Ozark and Shawnee Hills in Southern Illinois, was established in September 1939 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The park boasts magnificent geological features, including the Little Grand Canyon and the Garden of the Gods Wilderness, as well as a large expanse of hardwood trees and pines that were planted by the Civilian Conservation Corps on reclaimed farmland.

Six finalist designs were considered when the CCAC made their recommendations earlier this month.
