United States Mint Announcement: 2017-P American Liberty Silver Medal Set for June 14 Release

2017 United States Mint Silver Medal

American Gold, Silver Eagle 1 oz Uncirculated Coins, among others, also receive release dates as the United States Mint announces June product schedule

By CoinWeek News Staff ….
UPDATE, 5-22-2017: The United States Mint’s online catalog originally listed the 2017 American Liberty 225th Anniversary High Relief Silver Medal as being produced at the West Point Mint. As noted in the original article below, this ran contrary to the Mint’s previously announced plans to produce the standalone medal at the Philadelphia Mint. As of at least this morning on Monday, May 22, the Mint’s catalog has been updated/corrected to say that the medal will indeed be struck at Philadelphia. There is currently no mintage limit nor is there a household order limit in effect.

The United States Mint just added a handful of items to its online product schedule, and perhaps the biggest news is that at least one of the five 2017 American Liberty 225th Anniversary high-relief silver medals will be released on June 14. However, the only significant detail about the medal currently shared on the product page is that it will be struck at West Point. The 2017-W American Liberty silver medal will have a laser-frosted Enhanced Uncirculated finish and is part of a planned four-medal set celebrating 225 years since production began at the Mint’s Philadelphia facility.

CoinWeek will keep you posted as more information about this or any of the new products below is available.

The other medals in the set include a regular Uncirculated medal from Denver, a Proof medal from San Francisco, and a Reverse Proof from Philadelphia. A silver Proof medal from Philadelphia also will be available separately. All five medals feature the same design as the 2017 American Liberty High-Relief Gold Coin, which features an African-American Lady Liberty on the obverse and a flying eagle on the reverse.

The gold coin has been somewhat controversial since well before its release on April 6. As of May 7, it has sold only 19,304 units out of a maximum allotted mintage of 100,000.

No mintage or household order limits are established for the West Point medal at this time.

Also on the schedule for June are the 2017 American Gold and American Silver Eagle 1 oz Uncirculated coins. The Gold Eagle Uncirculated coin will come out on June 1, while the Silver Eagle will be issued on June 29. Both will be struck at West Point

In addition to the bigger ticket items above, June will also see the release of the 2017 U.S. Mint Silver Proof Set (June 7), 2017 America the Beautiful Quarters – Ozark National Scenic Riverways rolls and bags (June 5), and the Ozark National Scenic Riverways three-coin set (June 26).

The Silver Proof Set will contain 90% silver versions of the year’s quarter, dime and nickel, while also including the 2017-P mint mark Lincoln cent, the Sequoyah Native American $1 coin, and 90% silver Proof versions of all five 2017 America the Beautiful quarters: Effigy Mounds National Monument (Iowa), Frederick Douglass National Historic Site (District of Columbia), Ozark National Scenic Riverways (Missouri), Ellis Island (New Jersey) and George Rogers Clark National Historical Park (Indiana).
