Congress created the United States Mint in 1792, and the Mint became part of the Department of the Treasury in 1873. As the Nation’s sole manufacturer of legal tender coinage, the Mint is responsible for producing circulating coinage for the Nation to conduct its trade and commerce. The Mint also produces numismatic products, including proof, uncirculated, and commemorative coins; Congressional Gold Medals; silver and bronze medals; and silver and gold bullion coins. Its numismatic programs are self-sustaining and operate at no cost to taxpayers.

  1. I’d like to see something NEW and UNIQUE from the mint that is not just a different little privy mark on an old coin. Just like Hollywood and everything else, just make part 24 or number it so you think it rare.

  2. A beautiful and popular coin to be sure!! Unfortunately, unless I am blessed enough to win this one from Coin Week’s giveaway, not likely I will be able to afford one. Thank you for what you do, Coin Week!!!

  3. A coin for all the Navy collectors out there. I grew up in Norfolk VA, home of the largest Navy base in the world at the time, so Navy collectables are a special treat.

  4. Not sure if I will pre-order this Navy privy.
Managed to score a PR70 from CAC nonetheless on the Army privy.
Definitely interested in reading the future article mentioned in the editor’s notes.
