lionsclubsintl

On the morning of November 9, 2016, CoinWeek editor Charles Morgan will be on hand at the Philadelphia Mint filming the ceremonial first strike of the 2017 Lions Clubs International Silver Dollar. The new silver dollar is one of three coins authorized by the Lions Clubs International Century of Service Commemorative Coin Act (part of Public Law-181).

By filming the ceremony, CoinWeek will be able to provide collectors an exclusive Ultra High Definition behind-the-scenes look at the new dollar being produced before they are released to the public in January 2017.

The private event will be attended by principal members of the U.S. Mint and the Lions Clubs International. Participants named in the U.S. Mint press release include, U.S. Mint Principal Deputy Director Rhett Jeppson; Lions Clubs International Centennial Committee Chair J. Frank Moore, III; and Plant Superintendent, United States Mint Philadelphia Marc Landry.

The Lions Clubs International Century of Service dollar will be struck as a Proof and uncirculated finishes. Both versions will be struck at the Philadelphia Mint and bear the “P” mintmark. The Obverse features a likeness of Lions Clubs International founder Melvin Jones drawn by U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) designer Joel Iskowitz (View Designer’s Profile) and executed by Joseph F. Menna (View Designer’s Profile). The reverse features a depiction of a male and female lion and a lion cub designed by Patricia Lucas-Morris and engraved by Donald Everhart, II (View Designer’s Profile).

CoinWeek’s exclusive Lions Clubs International Silver Dollar Ceremonial Strike video will be available online later this week.
