Another auction record was set with the million dollar sale of one of the most celebrated bank notes in the United States.

The “Grand Watermelon” is a $1000 bill with zeroes on the back side that remind people of water melons. The front side has a portrait of Civil War General George Meade. Only five examples are known and this is one of the finest.

See the auction sale and hear Peter Treglia of Spectrum Numismatics talk about why he purchased this note and what million dollar prices mean for the paper money market.
