World Money Fair Makes History With Landmark Mint Industry Alliance
The agreement marks a first for the association. World Money Fair Berlin GmbH becomes the MDA’s first member that primarily organizes an industry event.
As a result, the two organizations plan to build a closer strategic partnership. They will also explore new programs for mint leaders, suppliers, designers, dealers, and other numismatic professionals.
The Mint Directors Association announced the membership on July 22, 2026.
A New Chapter for the Mint Directors Association
The World Money Fair MDA membership expands the association beyond its traditional minting-industry base.
The MDA connects mints and other organizations across the global coin production sector. Its members share research, expertise, technology, and best practices.
Now, the association has opened its doors to an event organizer for the first time.
According to the MDA, the decision reflects its continued development as a platform for collaboration. It also recognizes the broader network that supports modern coin production and numismatics.
That network includes sovereign mints, private mints, equipment manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, dealers, and collectors.
World Money Fair Connects the Global Coin Industry
World Money Fair Berlin GmbH organizes the annual World Money Fair in Berlin, Germany.
The event brings together mints, central banks, suppliers, distributors, coin dealers, collectors, and industry executives. Therefore, it serves both the commercial minting industry and the collector market.
World Money Fair describes the event as the world’s largest coin fair. Around 300 exhibitors from more than 50 countries normally take part. The exhibition covers about 9,000 square meters.
The event also offers technical forums, new coin presentations, educational programs, and industry discussions.
Meanwhile, the MDA already maintains a visible presence at the Berlin show. The association held its 2026 annual general meeting during the World Money Fair. Mint officials and industry specialists also used the event to discuss issues that could shape the market in 2026 and beyond.
Partnership Could Expand World Money Fair Programming
The new membership gives both organizations a formal path toward deeper cooperation.
First, the MDA could expand its presence at future World Money Fair events. The association also plans to increase member participation and develop targeted content.
In addition, the organizations may create joint initiatives involving coin design, technology, innovation, and industry leadership.
They also want to provide new platforms for emerging talent.
The partnership could therefore give mint professionals more opportunities to exchange ideas. It could also connect technical specialists with the wider numismatic marketplace.
MDA Leaders Welcome the Historic Agreement
MDA Executive Director Mark Cartwright called the agreement a positive step for the association.
Cartwright said the partnership creates a more structured relationship with one of the minting industry’s most important annual events. He also said it will help the MDA connect with members, highlight industry expertise, and strengthen its World Money Fair presence.
MDA Chair Marie Lemay also welcomed the new member.
Lemay said the association works to encourage meaningful exchanges across the international minting community. She described the addition of the MDA’s first event organization member as an important sign of the association’s continued evolution.
She added that the MDA looks forward to working with World Money Fair Managing Director Goetz-Ulf Jungmichel and his team.
World Money Fair Sees a Milestone for the Industry
Jungmichel described World Money Fair as the global “place to be” for the coin industry.
He said the event has maintained a constructive relationship with the Mint Directors Association for several years. However, formal membership now gives that relationship a new structure.
Jungmichel called the agreement a milestone for World Money Fair.
He said the partnership should create stronger programming, shared expertise, and new platforms for innovation. It could also promote coin design and support emerging industry talent.
Above all, he said the partnership must create real value for the international coin industry.
What Comes Next?
The Mint Directors Association and World Money Fair will now study several possible joint projects.
Those discussions will examine how the MDA can contribute to future World Money Fair programming. They will also address member engagement, industry leadership, and opportunities for younger professionals.
However, neither organization announced specific programs or dates in the July 22 release.
Still, the partnership represents a notable development. It formally connects a major mint-industry association with the annual event that brings much of the international coin community together in Berlin.
For collectors, the immediate effects may remain behind the scenes. Yet stronger cooperation between mints, designers, suppliers, and market professionals could eventually shape future coins, technical programs, and public presentations.
