Two Classic Silver Dollars Return With a 250th Anniversary Twist
The United States Mint will release the 2026 Morgan Silver Dollar Reverse Proof Coin and the 2026 Peace Silver Dollar Reverse Proof Coin on July 9, 2026, at noon Eastern Time.
This year, collectors will not need to wait for the later two-coin set to buy either coin. Instead, the Mint will offer the Morgan and Peace Reverse Proof Dollars as separate products on the same day. Each coin carries a price of $173. Each also carries a household order limit of 10. That change matters.
For many collectors, the Morgan and Peace Dollar pairing tells one of the best stories in American coinage. The Morgan Dollar closed one chapter in 1921. Then the Peace Dollar opened the next one. Now, in 2026, the Mint brings both designs into the Semiquincentennial year with a Philadelphia “P” mint mark, a reverse proof finish, and special 250th-anniversary visual language.
A 1921 Story Retold in 2026
The Morgan Dollar first appeared in 1878. Mint Chief Engraver George T. Morgan designed it, and the Mint struck the series from 1878 through 1904 and again in 1921. The design has long stood for America’s westward expansion and industrial growth in the late 19th century.
Then, in December 1921, the Peace Dollar arrived.
Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon approved Anthony de Francisci’s design that month. The new dollar replaced the Morgan Dollar and marked a new national mood after World War I. Its reverse carried a perched eagle, an olive branch, and one powerful word: PEACE.
So, the handoff from Morgan to Peace did more than change a design. It marked a shift in America’s self-image. The country moved from frontier expansion into a larger role on the world stage.
That is the excitement behind the 2026 releases. These coins do not simply revive two popular silver dollars. They reunite the two 1921 silver dollar stories during America’s 250th anniversary year.
A Semiquincentennial Twist
The modern Morgan and Peace Dollar program began in 2021. The Mint used that year to mark the 100th anniversary of the Morgan Dollar’s final year and the Peace Dollar’s first year.
Now, five years later, the 2026 coins carry a new anniversary layer.
Official Mint imagery shows the 2026 Morgan and Peace Reverse Proof Dollars with a Liberty Bell privy mark that contains the numeral “250.” The coins also carry the dual date 1776~2026. Together, these elements link two collector-favorite dollar designs to the 250th anniversary of American independence.
That gives the 2026 coins a one-year identity. They belong to the Morgan and Peace Dollar revival. However, they also belong to the Mint’s broader Semiquincentennial program.
Philadelphia Takes the Spotlight
The 2026 Reverse Proof Morgan and Peace Dollars come from the Philadelphia Mint.
That marks an important shift for the reverse proof format. Recent Morgan and Peace Reverse Proof two-coin sets, including the 2024 and 2025 sets, came from San Francisco. In 2026, the Mint moves the reverse proof issue to Philadelphia.
Collectors will see the “P” mint mark on both coins. For the Morgan Dollar, the “P” appears on the reverse beneath the wreath. For the Peace Dollar, the “P” appears on the reverse near the eagle’s tail feathers.
As a result, the 2026 coins add another point of difference to the modern series.
Reverse Proof Finish
Both coins use a reverse proof finish.
On a standard proof coin, mirrored fields usually frame frosted devices. A reverse proof flips that effect. The fields appear frosted, while Liberty, the eagle, lettering, and other raised details show mirrored brilliance.
This finish suits both designs. Morgan’s Liberty portrait has deep hair detail, bold stars, and a classic eagle reverse. Meanwhile, de Francisci’s Peace Dollar design has broad open fields, a radiant crown, and a powerful eagle above PEACE. The reverse proof treatment gives each design a different visual rhythm.
In hand, that contrast often drives collector interest.
2026 Morgan Silver Dollar Reverse Proof Coin
The 2026 Morgan Silver Dollar Reverse Proof Coin appears as U.S. Mint item 26XF.
The obverse features Liberty in profile. She wears a cap, flora, and a crown inscribed with LIBERTY. Thirteen stars, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the dual date surround her.
The reverse shows an eagle with outstretched wings. The eagle clasps arrows and an olive branch. A wreath frames the lower portion of the design. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.
The Mint’s subscription page currently lists a mintage limit and product limit of 180,000 for the 2026 Morgan Silver Dollar Reverse Proof Coin.

The Two-Coin Set Comes Later
Collectors who want the combined 2026 Morgan and Peace Dollar Two-Coin Set will need to wait.
The Mint lists that set as item 26XS. It carries a price of $375 and a household order limit of two. The Mint lists its release window as Fall 2026.
That later release creates a clear split in the marketplace. First, collectors get the two individual Reverse Proof coins on July 9. Then, in the fall, the Mint offers the combined set.
The split may influence buying behavior. Some collectors will buy both individual coins on release day. Others will wait for the set. Still, many Morgan and Peace Dollar specialists may want both formats, especially if packaging and certification demand create separate registry or label markets.
Why Collectors Will Watch This Release
The 2026 Morgan and Peace Reverse Proof Dollars bring together several strong collector hooks.
First, they carry two classic U.S. silver dollar designs. Second, they come from the modern revival that began in 2021. Third, they connect to the 250th anniversary of the United States. Finally, they shift the reverse proof format to Philadelphia for 2026.
That combination gives these coins more than a routine annual-release story.
They sit at the intersection of 1878, 1921, 2021, and 2026. Few modern Mint products can connect that many collector timelines in one package.
For Morgan Dollar collectors, the 2026 coin extends a design born in the age of silver, railroads, and western mining. For Peace Dollar collectors, the 2026 coin revisits a design born from the hope that followed a world war. Together, they form a compact history lesson in .999 fine silver.
The Mint opens sales on July 9 at noon Eastern Time.
I have lots of half dollar coins from 1921 to 2000s

Do you have any confederate coins?
@Pamela Blankenship: Borrow or buy a current copy of the famous “Red Book” guide. It’ll help you to identify dates, mint marks, and conditions so you can make a rough estimate of your coins’ values. Any that appear to be rare and/or valuable can then be checked by an expert such as a certified dealer to see if it’s worth submitting for professional evaluation.
Please don’t get your hopes up; many older coins turn out to be worth much less than people might think … but OTOH there can always be a few “specials” mixed in. Happy collecting!
I love the look of the reverse proof Morgan and Peace dollars
Diamond fields on the two coin set in the fall.

Beautiful coins! The US MINT has gone bonkers with their prices though!
I’m looking forward to these. Already have a subscription for both. The finish looks amazing this year.
I’m going broke purchasing almost all of these 250th anniversary coins & coon sets this year. I had to stomach the gold Mercury Dime w/that butt-ugly silver medal that I received last week.
Beautiful pieces
Some Beautiful coins love peace and morgan dollars would love the 1776 – 2026
These are beautiful coins, but incredibly expensive. Getting the proofs, the reverse proofs and the uncirculated is a huge strain on the budget.
Beautiful coins, but a bit pricey…
Was hoping these had the dual dates!! Great coins!
Unless silver jumps again, i say wait for the dual set release and buy those. With the special packaging, it will probably have a smaller run.
Beautiful, classic designs
Nice looking, though the price is keeping a lot of collectors out.
Can’t wait for these to drop.
One of the things I enjoy most about your website is the very detailed descriptions of each and every coin that you not only give away but the article I read on the peace and Morgan dollars was very informational and I am really grateful that you do that for your coins because I have very low vision now and cannot see the coins, but still collect and your descriptions help me decide what I would like to collect. So thank you for the excellent descriptions.
Awesome set
I have stopped buying these at $173. Not compelling at that price.
AGREED!!
A GREAT! Idea For The New Century & Millenium.
Nice looking coin
I want one of each.
Very beautiful coins!
Old coins are the best.
These are the best new releases in a long time.
I wish the mint would lower the prices, since silver has dropped so much this yr!!!!
Is the Mint also releasing normal looking uncirculated 2026 Peace Dollars?
No standard Uncirculated Morgan or Peace Dollars this year, but Enhanced Uncirculated ones are set to be released August 25.

A little to much money.
Nice coin
Can’t wait to own one of this amazing coins. Adding to my wish list!! The history of the coins in itself is thrilling. To own one marking the 250th yr celebration would be remarkable.
My name is John and I just recently inherited a very large coin collection I’m trying to learn as much as I can as fast as possible but there’s just so much to know! Is there anybody near Northeast Ohio by chance who would be interested in taking a look at or helping me decide if I have any coins that are of value? If so I would be extremely grateful and depending on the worth of any coin right share some of the profit!
